Great Starts and Wonderful Beginnings

A Homeschool Voices Project

At Yorktown Press, we are dedicated to supporting homeschool families and fostering a love for storytelling. "Great Starts and Wonderful Beginnings" is the first book in our Homeschool Voices series, featuring first chapters from high school and above homeschool students.

This project provides a platform for young adult writers to share their creativity, refine their craft, and see their work in print. Each chapter offers a glimpse into a larger story—one that may develop into a full-length book or stand as a testament to the imagination and discipline that homeschooling fosters.

As part of this project, we will be hosting a Book Launch event that will include select readings, a book signing, and an opportunity for students and parents to celebrate the published authors. This event will provide a chance to engage with the writers and learn more about their creative journeys.

In addition to the launch event, we are working to organize author appearances at local libraries and bookstores. These events will allow readers to meet the contributors, hear them discuss their work, and gain insights into the writing and publishing process.

What We Are Looking For

  • Homeschooled students in high school or beyond

  • First chapters of fiction or non-fiction books

  • Original, unpublished work

Submission Guidelines

  • Chapters should be between 1,500 and 5,000 words (exceptions may be requested)

  • Content must be family-friendly and align with traditional Christian values

  • Submissions should be edited for grammar and clarity before submission

  • An editor will review submissions before publication and edits will be suggested

  • Authors retain full rights to their work

For Parents and Educators

We encourage parents and homeschool educators to guide students in this process, helping them develop strong writing skills and confidence in sharing their work. This project is not just about publishing—it’s about celebrating the creativity, discipline, and independent thinking that homeschooling nurtures.

If you or your child has a story to tell, we’d love to hear from you.

Let your first chapter be the start of something great.
